It is also known as emery or moissanite; there are two basic varieties of black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide. The crystal structure of silicon carbide is divided into hexagonal or rhombohedral α - SiC and cubic β - SiC. It is a promising material, capable of withstanding high temperatures and mechanical stresses, and corrosive environments. What is silicon carbide ceramic membrane?

Silicon carbide ceramic membrane is made from pure SiC powders by recrystallization technology at an extremely high sintering temperature of 2400℃,then formed the porous and asymmetric membrane structure, according to the membrane pore size difference, mainly proposed for liquid filtration applications by membrane separation technology as microfiltration and ultrafiltration. It is a kind of inorganic membrane with separation function, which is coated of SiC ceramic material as the filtration medium.

Features and benefits:

1.Chemical stability

The SIC ceramic membrane is also a kind of semiconductor, the surface has negative charge in a wide PH range, the isoelectric point is near PH3, which belongs to impurity conductivity, the membrane can be used for long time in harsh environment of strong acid and alkali (PH value 0-14), good stability for most sewage, especially oil-water permeability (oil-free). Almost no etching with any solvent at 1500 ℃

2.High temperature resistance (800 ℃)

Due to the combination of high thermal conductivity, lower thermal expansion and high mechanical resistance. This enables shorter cleaning cycles at high temperatures without risking structural damage to the filtration media.

3.Durability

Good wear resistance and high hardness, with Mohs hardness of 9.5, second only to the world’s hardest diamond (Grade 10)

4.High flux rate,

The sintered neck between the silicon carbide aggregates is a phase changing process from solid and gas→solid, which makes the pore opening rate reaches up to 45%, and the formed filtering channel with strong connectivity, the pure water flux is as high as 3200LMH, water-loving and oleophobic. 

5.Easy Cleaning

Backwashing can easily remove surface contaminants, such as colloids, suspended solids and oil droplets. no limitation of cleaning schemes, such as traditional backwash, back pulse, and periodic chemical cleaning can be used.

6.Long lifespan

At least 10-15 years, which is 2~3 times longer than that of alumina membrane.
